Practice Areas

Clear guidance for complex legal problems.

Legal disputes rarely arrive with a neat label. You may know that a deal has fallen apart, a court got something wrong, a government agency is asking questions, or a business dispute has become serious—but not what kind of lawyer you need.

Hager Law PLLC represents individuals, businesses, and organizations in complex disputes, appeals, investigations, and other high-stakes matters. Jared Hager draws on more than two decades of experience in private practice, federal service, and the courts to help clients understand the problem, evaluate their options, and develop a clear strategy forward.

Complex Litigation

When a dispute becomes complicated.
Some legal disputes are too large, technical, or important for a routine approach. They may involve substantial financial exposure, complicated contracts, multiple parties, technical evidence, extensive records, or proceedings in more than one forum.

Jared represents clients in sophisticated business and commercial disputes in state and federal court and arbitration. His experience includes major insurance disputes, international arbitration, highly technical commercial matters, and litigation involving significant financial exposure.

Matters may include:
Business and commercial disputes • Contract claims • Insurance disputes • High-value claims • Complex federal litigation • International arbitration • Technical disputes

Representative Experience
In private practice, Jared defended several nine-figure disputes arising from commercial satellite failures, obtaining dismissal of all claims and awards of attorneys' fees and costs in a series of international arbitrations. He also helped recover $267 million for the Tennessee Valley Authority from international insurers.

Appeals

When a court decision needs another look.
An appeal isn't simply another trial. It requires identifying the legal issues that matter, understanding the existing record, and explaining clearly why a decision should—or should not—stand.
Jared brings experience from both sides of the appellate bench. He began his career clerking for Judge Ronald M. Gould of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and later handled a substantial federal appellate docket as an Assistant U.S. Attorney.

Matters may include:
Appealing an adverse judgment • Defending a favorable judgment • Federal civil appeals • Appellate briefing • Oral argument • Evaluating potential appeals

Appellate Experience
Jared's appellate case list identifies 22 Ninth Circuit matters, six oral arguments, and three published decisions. His matters included employment, federal tort, constitutional and other federal claims.

Published decisions include Heimrich v. Department of the Army, Bottinelli v. Salazar, and Olson v. United States.

Investigations & Government Enforcement

When the government is involved.
Receiving a government inquiry, becoming the subject of an investigation, or facing an enforcement action can create immediate legal and business concerns. Understanding what the government is asking—and what may happen next—is critical.

Jared spent a decade with the U.S. Department of Justice, first as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and later as a Trial Attorney in the Civil Rights Division. His work included affirmative civil enforcement, defensive federal litigation, investigations, and enforcement of federal court orders.

That experience gives him firsthand knowledge of how government investigations and enforcement matters develop from inside the process.

Matters may include:
Government investigations • Civil enforcement • Regulatory disputes • Federal litigation • Institutional investigations • Government inquiries

Government Experience
Jared investigated police departments in Louisville, Minneapolis, and Oklahoma City and worked on enforcement of consent decrees in Portland, Albuquerque, and Maricopa County. He also served on the DOJ section committee responsible for recommending potential new matters for investigation.

Civil Rights & Constitutional Litigation

When a dispute involves individual rights or government power.
Civil-rights and constitutional cases can involve some of the most fundamental questions in the law: how government may exercise its authority and what protections federal law provides to individuals and organizations.

Jared's federal practice has included matters involving law enforcement, disability, housing, lending, reproductive-health access, and constitutional rights. He has worked on cases involving the First and Second Amendments as well as federal civil-rights statutes.

Matters may include:
Civil-rights claims • Government action • Law-enforcement practices • Disability rights • Housing and lending • First Amendment issues • Second Amendment issues • Constitutional challenges

Representative Experience
At DOJ's Civil Rights Division, Jared investigated alleged patterns or practices of police misconduct, monitored and enforced police-reform consent decrees, and prosecuted civil violations of the FACE Act.

His federal litigation has also involved constitutional challenges concerning Congress's authority under the Commerce Clause and rights under the First Amendment and Free Exercise Clause.

Aviation & Aerospace

When technical problems become legal disputes.
Aviation and aerospace disputes can involve enormous financial stakes and highly technical facts. Effective representation requires understanding the legal issues while working comfortably with engineers, experts, technical records, and complex commercial agreements.

Jared has represented clients in litigation arising from aviation incidents and major commercial disputes involving satellite failures. His experience combines complex litigation with years of work involving sophisticated technology and international commercial disputes.

Matters may include:
Aviation incidents • Aerospace disputes • Satellite failures • Technical product disputes • Commercial contracts • Insurance issues • International arbitration

Representative Experience
Jared defended several nine-figure commercial disputes arising from satellite failures, obtaining dismissal of all claims and awards of attorneys' fees and costs in a series of international arbitrations. He has also defended complex state and federal litigation arising from aviation incidents.

Real Estate Litigation

When a real estate deal goes wrong.
A failed real estate transaction can quickly become more than a disagreement over property. Questions about contracts, title, transaction documents, representations, and the conduct of the professionals involved can lead to significant and prolonged litigation.

Hager Law represents clients in complex disputes arising from real estate transactions and related agreements, helping clients understand what went wrong, identify the legal issues involved, and determine the best path forward.

Matters may include:
Failed purchases or sales • Purchase and sale agreements • Contract disputes • Title issues • Transaction documents • Claims involving real estate professionals • Complex property-related litigation

Representative Experience
Jared's current real estate experience includes representation in complex, multi-year litigation arising from a failed real estate transaction, including claims involving a national title company, and issues concerning transaction documents.

Not Sure Where Your Matter Fits?

Start with the problem, not the legal label.
Complex disputes don't always fit neatly into one practice area. A real estate dispute can involve contract and appellate issues. A business matter can lead to a government investigation. A technical dispute can involve litigation, insurance, and arbitration at the same time.

If you're facing a significant legal problem and aren't sure whether it falls within one of these categories, contact Hager Law PLLC to discuss the nature of the matter.
